The State bird
The South Dakota state bird is the Chinese Ring Necked Pheasant. It became a state bird on February 13, 1943. It was recognized by it's colorful plumage. It's face is red and bare ,it has a teal neck with a white ring around it, and red, orange, yellow, and brown plumage on the rest of the body.

The Walleye is the official State fish of South Dakota. The Walleye was designated the State fish in 1982. Walleyes live in cool, clear lakes. They are in the deep waters during the days and shallow waters at night, because their eyes are sensitive to light. In South Dakota the Walleye is a real "catch" that is a trophy to fisherman.

The state seal represents the state industries and natural resources. You can see the state motto written on a ribbon inside the picture saying, "Under God The People Rule". There is a river with a steam boat traveling a cross it to represent a big industry in the state. The land around the river represents the agriculture and industrial land in South Dakota.
