South Dakota is a large state, and its population is spread thin. Interstate 29 in the eastern part of the state is the major north-south route. Interstate 90 in the lower half of the state is South Dakota's major east-west route and is also an important U.S. artery running from Massachusetts to the state of Washington. The state has 130 newspapers, 120 radio stations, and 27 television stations.
